Blyxa Japonica - A classic aquatic plant used for aquascaping

Blyxa Japonica is a true aquatic plant that is naturally found in nutrient-rich, stagnant waters like swamps, marshes and other slow-moving bodies of water. This aquarium stem plant was made popular in the aquarium community by Takashi Amano and his curated use of its grass-like appearance. Medium in height, Blyxa Japonica is a suitable midground aquarium plant or as a background aquatic plant in smaller nano planted tanks. This aquarium stem plant forms bushy growth naturally, thanks to its compact growing pattern and will provide beautiful motion and color nuance to any planted aquarium.

When Blyxa Japonica is planted in an aquarium with CO2 injection and moderate to high light levels, this aquarium stem starts to exhibit red and golden hues that weave in between its primary green and yellow leaves. This quality produces visual interest and subtle contrast against a backdrop of other aquarium plants. Commonly believed to be a difficult stem plant, Blyxa Japonica is relatively hardy once mature and can adapt to soft and harder water conditions. Some melt can be expected, but effects can be mitigated through consistent care and quality aquarium plant fertilizers. For best results, Blyxa Japonica should be planted an a nutrient-rich, CO2 injected planted aquarium.

Slightly different from other species of grass-like midground and foreground aquatic plants, Blyxa Japonica doesn't produce long runners. Instead, side shoots are produced and are easily divided from the mother plant with quality aquascaping tools. It is a bit more difficult to plant due to its buoyancy, but overall this aquatic plant is not as invasive, since it tends to bush over itself as it grows.
